HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM
The federally funded Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), is voluntary for both landlords and tenants. It helps eligible families of lower income with their monthly rent payments.
How it works:
A family whose household income is fifty percent or less of the area's medium household income (AMI) is qualified to participate in the program from the Longmont Housing Authority. Through a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract, directly monthly payments are made to the landlord/property owner as a portion of the tenant's monthly rent payment. After allowances are made for utilities not included in the rent, the HAP makes up the difference in total amount due.
Example:
If thirty percent of a family's gross monthly income is $600.00, and rent (including utilities) for the selected apartment is $1,600.00 per month, the tenant pays the landlord $600.00 and the remaining $1,000.00 is paid to the landlord by the Longmont Housing Authority through the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

The Longmont Housing Authority (LHA) have developed draft of the Public Housing Agency (PHA) Five Year Plan. Any comments or recommendations from residents or the general public on the PHA Plan may be submitted to 350 Kimbark Street, Longmont, CO 80501 or via email to Tracy.defrancesco@longmontcolorado,gov. The public comment period will begin 8/27/2024 and conclude on 8/25/2024. There will be public hearing held in person on 9/17/2024 at 6 p.m. at 350 Kimbark Street, Longmont, CO 80501. LHA complies with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Individuals with disabilities who may need auxiliary aids, services or special modifications to participate in the public hearing should contact Tracy DeFrancesco at 303-774-4445. Requests should be made no later than seven (7) days prior to the hearing so necessary arrangements can be made.

Current HCV Lottery Waitlist
A lottery system is used for applicants to become Housing Choice Voucher participants. The lottery opens when there are vouchers available. Exact dates of the openings will be posted on our website, main office postings, and the Times Call newsletter a few weeks in advance.

Currently, the Housing Choice Voucher (also known as Section 8) is closed at the moment, as we are still managing our previous year's waiting list. Applications are not accepted until further vouchers become available.
